October the 6th, 2024 – The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) has arrived in neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina to help with flood efforts in heavily affected areas such as Jablanica.
Despite water levels having risen to concerning levels here in Croatia, particularly in areas such as Karlovac, the situation next door is catastrophic. The flooding situation in areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina has become critical, with Jablanica and the surrounding areas now being declared as victims of a natural disaster.
As Morski writes, Members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) decided to hop over the border and recently successfully managed to reach Jablanica.
The selfless teams from Croatia have successfully made their way to Donja Jablanica, one of the hardest hit places in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It took them a long time to get safely there.
“We’re delivering the necessary things to the local Health Centre (Dom Zdravlja), and engagement is expected in other locations as well,” the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service posted on Facebook.
Currently, eleven members from Croatia are helping in Jablanica with four off-road vehicles and two vessels from stations in Dubrovnik, Orebić and Šibenik. Accompanying them is a search dog named Zara, who will be of invaluable help in the search for missing persons.
Flooding has taken place across Europe, with moderate to severe issues having been reported from areas of the UK to Poland and elsewhere.
