March the 20th, 2024 – Croatian railways are set to have brand new electrodiesel trains with comfortable seats running along them by 2026.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, an open procedure for the public procurement of six electrodiesel motor trains for the Zagreb – Split – Zagreb route has been started.
According to the current plan, Croatian railways should be graced with these new vehicles in a couple of years. More specifically, they’ll be put into service during 2026 and 2027, as was announced this week by HŽ Putnički prijevoz (Passenger transport), as reported by tportal.
These brand new trains will have an electric drive for the electrified part, and diesel for the non-electrified part of the track, with high power traction motors to meet the conditions of the demanding mountain railway sections, according to HŽ Putnički promet.
As announced, the trains will be equipped with a modern passenger information system – a true novelty for Croatian railways. They will be able to be used by people who require wheelchairs, as they will be equipped with ramps for their entry and exit, and the train will also have a fully adapted toilet for those with physical disabilities.
Along with the proper areas for bicycles, indoor and outdoor video surveillance and free internet access, passengers will be able to charge their mobile phones and laptops while on board. In addition, the new trains will have comfortable seats, and a certain number of them will be reserved for first class passengers.
Catering services will also be provided to passengers, and in the case of higher travel demand, it will be possible to connect two to three trains.
The maximum speed of the trains will be 160 km/h, which will bring the entire view of Croatian railways across the country and abroad into a far more positive light.
