YESTERDAY around 21:30 a passenger and freight train collided near Rajić near Novska. According to the latest information, it was confirmed that three people died, while 11 were injured.
Unofficial information says that several foreigners – citizens of Iran – are among the injured. Croatian citizens were killed, according to HRT.
All emergency services were on the field all night, and an investigation is underway. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković visited the accident site last night with the ministers, who said that it was an accident that people had never seen before.

In the railway accident that happened on Friday evening near Novska, in the town of Rajić, there are currently data on three dead and 11 injured people who were transported to hospitals in Slavonski Brod, Pakrac and Nova Gradiška. Accident Investigation Agency inspector Tomislav Antun Biber confirmed for N1 that two HŽ employees who were on duty at the time were killed. The third person who died was a minor, he added.
“When visiting the accident site, we see that there was a stop signal from the direction of the passenger train,” Tomislav Antun Biber, inspector of the Accident Investigation Agency, told N1.

Sisak police: Eight foreign nationals were injured in the train accident
The spokesperson of the Sisak-Moslavina police, Darko Kačmarčik, confirmed to Hina that eight foreign nationals were among those injured in the train accident near Novska, and that other details are being determined.
Commenting on the media report, he said that they were eight people of Afro-Asian origin and added that he could not say whether they were on a freight or passenger train, nor whose nationalities they were.
They are being interviewed, and the state attorney’s office is investigating the accident, so we will be able to provide more information later, Kačmarčik said.
For now, it is not known how many migrants were on the train.

A family of five from Iran was admitted in Nova Gradiška, they were injured
7 injured people were admitted to the hospital in Nova Gradiška. Two people were seriously injured, but they are stable and not in a life-threatening condition, confirmed the head of the Department of General Surgery at Nova Gradiška General Hospital, Dr. Vedran Gajski.

How did the accident happen?
HŽ issued a statement after the collision of a freight and passenger train in the vicinity of Novska, near the town of Rajić. The accident happened around 9:30 p.m., and according to the first information from the field, at least six people died and more were injured. All emergency services are on the ground and help the victims.
“Tonight, September 9, around 9:30 p.m. between Okučani and Novska stations, passenger train no. 2506 on a freight train. The accident resulted in fatalities and serious injuries. Emergency services are at the scene of the accident. The cause of the accident will be known after the investigation. Train 2506 ran on the route Vinkovci – Novska. HŽ Putnički prijevost expresses its condolences to the families of the victims,” HŽ announced in its press release.
As Index learns, the passenger train was traveling at a speed of 100 km/h when it ran into the malfunctioning train. He ran a red light before crashing into a stopped freight train at full speed.
