A reader of Jutarnji sent a bitter email complaining about the recent rude behaviour on the beach near Paklenica.

There has been a series of incidents happening on Croatia’s beaches this year, most recent one being at the Pisak beach along the coast of Paklenica Riviera, reports Jutarnji.hr on September 1, 2017.

Photographs sent to us [Jutarnji] by the reader clearly show cars parked in the middle of the beach, which not only demonstrates rudeness and blatant disrespect of other people, but also devastates the environment.

“You think you saw every type of arrogant and disrespectful behaviour this summer at the beaches? Well, you did not see the beach in Seline.People are literally parking cars right by the sea, digging around the beach and worst of all they are driving around only inches away from bathers, which is extremely dangerous,” writes the reader.

The reader adds that the Pisak beach, which is often called the ‘Little Golden Cape’, is a beautiful natural beach created by the rivers of National Park Paklenica. The drivers who practically take their cars for a swim are not the only problem, but also the neighbours who are taking gravel from the beach as a free material for house construction.

“For centuries, the Paklenica canyons have been dredging stones and thereby forming two beautiful beaches in Seline. While other municipalities are bringing gravel to have a lovely beach and then taking good care of it, the authorities in Seline are having a hard time preserving and treasuring this beautiful God-given natural beach. It is the most beautiful beach in this part of Dalmatia, and it irresistibly resembles the smaller version of the Golden Cape (Zlatni Rat) in Bol. In addition to the everyday traffic that is devastating the beach, dredgers are regularly digging around to excavate pebbles and gravel in order to build the nearby houses. Who will take responsibility for it? When will the destruction of this gorgeous beach stop? How will they restore it to its original state?” the reader asks.
