April the 23rd, 2025 – There has been an encouraging 30% increase in Easter tourists in Istria this year in comparison to 2024.

As Morski writes, the festive Easter atmosphere was in full swing across Croatia’s largest peninsula. It could also be felt in the amount of Easter tourists in Istria this year, and it having fallen late compared to 2024 certainly encouraged people to travel. The beautiful April weather succeeded in luring locals and their guests from across Croatia and abroad out to the streets of Istria’s ancient towns and cities. In the popular coastal city of Pula, a large traditional Easter fritaja was prepared in front of the crowds.

Before the Easter weekend, Pula’s market was temptingly fragrant, the weather was sunny and the atmosphere was cheerful. This year, the large traditional Easter fritaja was prepared before Easter, organised by the City of Pula and the Tourist Board of Pula. The fritaja was prepared in an extremely large pan, with Budimir Žižović Žižo, the head chef, and his team frying an impressive 1,600 eggs with 20 kilograms of asparagus, with the addition of spring onions.

Around 700 portions were distributed to locals and tourists alike in a very short time as the spring sunshine beat down on the ancient cobbles of Istria’s most well known coastal city.

For Istria, the Easter tourists needed no convincing. This year, Istria saw approximately 190 thousand overnight stays recorded by Easter tourists keen to experience the festival period in this stunning and historically complex part of Croatia. According to tourism professionals, this result is 30 percent better than last year, when Easter was three weeks earlier and this naturally affected the number of Easter tourist traffic.

Most guests arrived in Istria from the peninsula’s typical emitting tourist markets. There were also many Croatian visitors from across the country. Slovenians, Italians, Germans, Austrians and domestic guests could all be seen on the streets of Pula and other towns and cities.
