June the 7th, 2025 – The commercial director of Emirates has revealed why the respected company has no plans to fly into Zagreb.
Zagreb Airport has positioned itself fantastically on the map of Europe and expanded the number of locations across the continent it connects passengers to over the last few years. Ryanair’s arrival in Zagreb only furthered that, with the Irish budget carrier linking the Croatian capital with very many new cities for extremely favourable prices.
Ryanair creating a base for itself at Zagreb Airport certainly put Croatia Airlines’ nose slightly out of joint, as the domestic carrier had already been struggling for a while before its arrival. What of other companies, however?
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Emirates has now officially revealed that it currently has no plans to launch flights to Zagreb. The well known carrier’s vice president and chief commercial officer, Adnan Kazim, told the above to EX-YU Aviation News.
It’s worth recalling that Emirates did once have a connection with Zagreb, as the carrier served the capital’s airport seasonally in the summer with its Boeing 777 fleet until the coronavirus pandemic hit.
Adnan Kazim said the following at the IATA Annual Meeting and World Air Transport Summit in New Delhi: “In order to ensure a more cost-effective network between Emirates and FlyDubai, we’ve identified routes like Zagreb that are more suitable for FlyDubai and target more specific demographics and customer requirements.
FlyDubai flying to and from Zagreb ensures that the capacities deployed are those which best meet customer demand. We have been able to jointly refine our ground experience to provide seamless connections for passengers flying with Emirates and wanting to continue their flight to Zagreb with FlyDubai,” he concluded.
