Bizarre: Entrance to Famous Blue Cave Blocked by Dinghy

Total Croatia News

Toni Jončić from Komiža blocked the entrance to the Blue Cave on the island of Biševo near Vis this morning, reports Index.hr.

The blockade lasted for half an hour and was stopped by the police who arrived and took Jončić to the police station. When asked why they are taking him to the station, he says that they didn’t know what to reply. According to the Index sources, the incident was reported at 09.15 after receiving a complaint that someone is blocking the access to the cave and threatening to set the cave on fire. The police immediately responded and came to the scene, detaining one person.

Jončić revealed the reason for blocking the Blue Cave.

“The Director of the Nautical Center falsely accused me of ticket malversation. I was trying to reach her to have an honest discussion with her, but with no success. So this morning, I blocked the entry into the Blue Cave with my dinghy to get her to talk,”Jončić told us.

During the blockade, two boats were trapped in the cave, and a large queue was formed in front of the cave. Jončić says he will insist that USKOK comes to the Nautical Center and investigates this case as well as other cases. He claims that some people enter the cave several times with only one purchased ticket.

People who drive tourists from Split to visit the Blue Cave also claim to be dissatisfied with the situation.

“The situation is a disaster. Employees favour domestic carriers from Komiža, while others have to wait. A few days ago, they even physically threatened this guy who was speeding a bit, but immediately apologised.”

Index reporters also contacted the mayor of Komiža, Tonka Ivčević, who confirmed that the cave was briefly blocked, but that everything is all right now and that there are generally no complaints about the work of the Blue Cave staff. At least that she has heard of.

“Everything works fine. We have hired 23 people. I was there on Saturday and there were no problems whatsoever. I did not hear any complaints,” says the Mayor of Komiža.
