Fire in a hospital in Split.

The fire broke out early Sunday morning at the Department of Neurosurgery of the Split Clinical Hospital Centre Firule. No patients were injured, but the material damage is extensive. The fire was completely extinguished after two hours, as reported Sunday morning by the Split hospital, police and fire-fighters officials, reports Jutarnji List on September 20 2015.

The fire broke out at 2.15 am in a room at the neurosurgery ward. At that moment, 27 patients were present in the room. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the medical staff, the fire-fighters and police officers, all patients were safely and timely evacuated, and no one was injured, reported the police.

The fire was contained around 3 am, and completely extinguished by 4.25 am. In addition to the medical staff, the whole event involved 25 fire-fighters from the Public Fire Department in Split, volunteers from Split, Žrnovnica and Podstrana, with a total of 11 vehicles and 15 police officers.

The fire-fighters reported that the damage was extensive, and that the large concentration of smoke caused the most of the problems.

Although the fire in the hospital was extinguished, one of the fire-fighting teams remained on location just in case. Unofficial sources claim that the most likely cause of the fire was a problem with a power cabinet, but it should be officially confirmed after the full investigation that will be conducted on Sunday.

This was not the first fire at the Split hospital in recent times. Earlier this year, a fire broke out at the surgical ward due to a problem with a refrigerator in a kitchenette.
