June the 11th, 2024 – New free Zagreb public transport is on the horizon, but who has the right to use it without paying a cent?
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Croatian capital is set to launch a pilot service of free Zagreb public transport in the pedestrian zone in the very centre of the city. Transportation by small “Fulir” electric vehicles will be available from Saturday, June the 15th, enabling residents and tourists alike an environmentally friendly way of movement in the heart of the city.
“The upcoming Fulir is more than just another transport service. It’s a concrete step towards a more sustainable, accessible and friendly Zagreb, which will make everyday life easier for many people and improve the quality of life in the centre”, said Mayor Tomislav Tomašević, explaining that the service is primarily intended for the older population, people with reduced mobility and people with disabilities, but it will also be available other residents and tourists.
The new free Zagreb public transport system will be made up of small electric cars with a capacity of 5 passengers plus a driver. They will be available from 08:00 to 20:00 on weekends and holidays until the end of October. The service is free and can be ordered by phone at 091/1111-425 and 091/1111-426. Drivers will answer calls themselves and arrange locations and routes as desired.
The name Fulir was chosen in honour of the unforgettable character from Zagreb’s most famous film Tko pjeva, zlo ne misli (One song a day takes the mischief away). The concept itself was inspired by the successful Kavalir model in the Slovenian capital city of Ljubljana. The free Zagreb public transport service will be provided ZET.
