June 30, 2023 – Istria County Prefect Boris Miletić held a reception for the Consul General of Croatia in Munich for the consular area of Bavaria, Vladimir Duvnjak, and the President for Tourism of the ADAC car club, Karlheinz Jungbeck. He said that the German market is extremely important for Istrian tourism.
“Today, Istrian tourism accounts for a third of Croatian tourism, or almost seven percent of the total GDP of the Republic of Croatia. For Istria, which is predominantly a self-driving destination, the German market is extremely important, and German tourists are our most numerous guests. Last year, there were 1,320,065 of them. They provided for a total of 10,999,450 overnight stays, surpassing the figures from the pre-pandemic year 2019,” Miletić pointed out, writes Index.
Istria the leader in the annual list of planned trips of members of the German auto club
The Istrian prefect reminded that the share of overnight stays by guests from Germany in the total overnight stays of Istria in 2022 amounted to 37.2 percent. He further added that Croatia’s entry into Schengen, as well as the introduction of the euro will certainly contribute to the additional popularity of Istria and further improve the stats for Istrian tourism.
ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club) is a famous German automobile club, whose members have been ranking Istria as the most desirable holiday destination for years, and they did so for the first time back in 2010.
Since then, as stated by ADAC’s president for tourism Jungbeck, Istria has remained the leader in the annual list of planned trips by members of the German auto club. It is precisely the flattering results of ADAC’s long-term research that greatly contribute to the marketing distribution and better perception of Istria as a destination in Germany, the most important target market of Istrian tourism.
