If you’re taking to the roads, or indeed to the sea, be extremely careful!
Heading off somewhere today and planning to use the roads? The Croatian Auto Club (Hrvatski Auto Klub) has issued a warning to all those intending to drive owing to adverse winter conditions on the roads on the 17th of December, 2017.
Because of strong winds, the following roads are open only for passenger cars:
The A1 highway between Sveti Rok and Posedarje,
The state road Maslenica-Zaton Obrovački (DC54).
On the Adriatic Highway (DC8) between Bakar and Novi Vinodolski, traffic for buses, caravans and motorcycles (I group of vehicles) is prohibited, and between Novi Vinodolski and Sveta Marija Magdalena, there is an additional prohibition for delivery and cargo vehicles (II. group of vehicles).
Strong wind is slowing traffic on the A6 Rijeka-Zagreb motorway between the Kikovica and Tuhobić tunnels down, but the road currently remains open for all traffic and all types of vehicle.
HAK has stated that wet, slippery conditions are present across most of the country and warns of the risk of driving without all of the necessary safety precautions being taken. Fog is causing issues in the continental part of Croatia, particularly on the A4 Goričan-Zagreb highway between Varaždin and Breznički Hum.
HAK also reports that the Mali Lošinj-Rijeka and Ubli-Vela Luka-Hvar-Split catamaran lines are currently suspended.
