A new dawn for the famous Rijeka shipyard?
As Morski writes on the 8th of May, 2018, the managing director of the Uljanik Group, Gianni Rossanda, confirmed today in Rijeka how the answer to whether or not Rijeka’s 3 Maj shipyard will come into Italian hands is expected within ten days, most likely at the end of next week.
Rossanda stated the aforementioned following a meeting with representatives of trade unions in Rijeka’s well known shipyard, Novi list writes. If the Italian answer is indeed a positive one, a formal ownership takeover will take place in a few months. It has been mentioned that October may be a possible month in which the takeover would be entirely formalised.
In addition, Rossanda has announced that cash and material will be received by the end of this month in order for 3 Maj to continue manufacturing.
Both Rossanda and the trade union representatives expressed satisfaction with the meeting, evaluating it constructively.
The involved union has said that it will wait until the end of May before making any particular decisions on any further action, now that it has been made clear that a response is expected within a stated time frame.
If the Italians decide to give up during this, the final phase of negotiations, it will be difficult to open up any new ownership options for the burdened shipyard. Given that there are no other known interested parties at this time, and in that case, 3 Maj would continue on in its somewhat turbulant ”marriage” to Uljanik.
