June the 14th, 2026 – LeBron James makes no attempt to hide his love for Croatia, coming very regularly, and this time signing Plenković’s son’s basketball jersey.

Dubrovnik once again found itself in the global spotlight this week as one of the world’s biggest basketball stars arrived on the Croatian coast. NBA legend LeBron James was in the city during the E1 electric boat racing event, where he met Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and surprised the Prime Minister’s son with a signed jersey.

The meeting quickly spread across Croatian media and social networks, with photos showing James signing the jersey and spending time with visitors during the event. It has to be said that LeBron was not the only international sports icon in Dubrovnik. The event also attracted tennis legend Rafael Nadal and other major names connected to the E1 electric powerboat championship, a competition focused on combining elite sport with new marine technology.

For Dubrovnik, the appearance of global celebrities represents another example of how the city has expanded beyond traditional tourism. Once known mainly for its historic walls, Adriatic views, and Game of Thrones fame, Dubrovnik has increasingly positioned itself as a destination for international events, luxury tourism, and high-profile visitors. The E1 championship, held in front of the city’s historic backdrop, brings together motorsport, sustainability, and entertainment, with teams linked to famous athletes and public figures.

Croatian officials have highlighted events like this as a way to promote the country internationally, bringing attention not only to Dubrovnik but also to Croatia’s wider tourism and innovation ambitions. For locals and visitors, however, the moment that captured the most attention was a simpler one. A global basketball superstar, standing on the Croatian coast, signing a jersey for a young fan.

Another reminder that Croatia’s ability to attract world-famous names is becoming part of its modern international image.
