High tech mattress produced in Slavonski Brod.
Pinija, company producing upholstered furniture, exports about 60 percent of its production, mostly to the United Kingdom and Sweden, and it produces mattresses according to guidelines from the American space agency NASA, reports Večernji List on April 3, 2016.
The company from Slavonski Brod has 22 employees who manufacture mattresses with cutting edge technology, and their range of products is very rich – from classic polyurethane to “memory foam”. The latter is a technology developed by NASA for the comfort of its astronauts to offset the strong G-forces during the take-off and landing of the spaceships, which was subsequently applied in the medical industry as well. This technology has become a standard in the production of pillows and mattresses. The company says that the mattresses with the memory foam are especially useful in the winter, because they make the user feel warmer.
“The memory foam was invented and developed by NASA for their needs. We now put a layer of that foam into our mattresses. We buy the foam from a British company. It provides a special comfort during sleep and responds to the body temperature and position, while the pillows and mattresses become perfectly adjusted to the human body”, said Pinija owner Ivan Oreč.
This company for the production of upholstered furniture is successfully coping with the foreign competition. It was established in 1998, and it was entirely oriented towards the domestic market until 2010. In the last five years, it started its export activities and every year it exports an increasing amount of products to the foreign markets. Today, they export around 60 percent of their production to the United Kingdom and Sweden.
The manufacturing process takes place in two halls with about one thousand square metres of usable area within the Đuro Đaković factory. They have recently opened their own furniture showroom in the centre of Slavonski Brod. The company has annual revenues of four million kuna and has remained profitable since its establishment.
