The goal was to collect at least 30,000 dollars.

Modulos, the first modular desk in the market, created by Matej Grozdanović from Batrina in Slavonia, has won over the world and its mass production will soon begin. The project has successfully completed a Kickstarter campaign, the goal of which was to collect at least 30,000 dollars, which was necessary for the production of the Croatian modular desk to start, reports Večernji List on October 31, 2017.

“We have collected 40,000 dollars in 40 days. We have already sold thirty tables in eight countries: the United States, Croatia, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland and Uruguay,” said Matej Grozdanović, the founder of Modulos. Citizens of Croatia could buy the modular table for 5,000 kuna, while the initial price for foreigners was 6,800 kuna.

The Kickstarter campaign offered the product for sale, but the production has not yet started. It was necessary to gather a certain number of orders which will now provide resources to launch the production process. “The problem with starting the production is that it is a major investment, and you are not sure whether people will be interested in buying the product. Therefore, the risk is high. But, with the Kickstarter campaign, if people are willing to give a large amount of money for something which does not yet exist, for a product that is still to be produced, that means you are on the right track,” he explained.

They used Kickstarter as a marketing platform, but also as a platform for market testing. If they did not reach the required minimum of 30,000 dollars, they would have abandoned the project and returned the money to potential buyers. But, Modulos has succeeded, and the news about the first modular desk in the world has been published by the media from the United States and Russia to Japan.

Modulos is the first desk whose surface can be assembled entirely from modules. “It consists of square panels which you connect together and build your desk. So, you can choose how the desk will look like, its dimensions and which modules you will use. There are modules ranging from the common flat surface to those with holes for cables and slots which serve to fit in a tablet. After a period of time, if you decide, for example, to change your office or apartment and find that the current desk will no longer fit in the room, you can dismantle it and shape it in any way you want. This is a desk which adapts to your needs,” said Grozdanović. Also, if a module is damaged, you do not need to change the whole desk, but just the module itself.

“We want to make sure that high-quality furniture and materials become accessible to people who are not rich. The idea is to make Modulos an example of a modern company in the wood industry. We have a new approach towards furniture, and we want to innovate, hire designers and work on high-quality products, as this is the only way to achieve something in Croatia,” concluded Grozdanović.
