Croatian Students Win Two Gold Medals at World Robotics Championship

Total Croatia News

Croatian footballers are not the only ones winning at a world cup.

The World Robotics Championship in Montreal has ended and Croatian representatives will return home with two gold medals, reports Večernji List on June 22, 2018.

The 2018 Robocup Montreal brought together 35 countries, with about 4,000 participants and 5,000 robots.

Croatia was represented by seven individual teams and they won two gold medals at the competition which took place at the “Palais des congrès de Montréal” hall. This is a great result because the competition was stronger than ever. Of course, the medals belong primarily to those who have won them, but this is a result which everyone in Croatia should be proud of, especially those who have invested their resources and efforts in robotics development.

The first position in the Rescue Maze category was won by Školska Knjiga CRO Team (Janko Pribičević and Juraj Kolarić), led by mentor Zoran Pribičević.

The other gold was won by Gebruder Weiss CRO Team (Marko Pongrac, Adi Jusupović, Martin Volarević and Martin Peček), together with their mentor Jelka Hrnjić and national representative Ivica Kolarić.

“We were brilliantly prepared for the competition. Still, we expected to win even more medals because we were very good in all categories. Unfortunately, several bronze medals have escaped us by the smallest of margins. In the Soccer Lightweight category, we had five wins and two defeats, but apparently, we received fewer points for our technical documentation. In the Soccer Open category, we had three wins and four defeats and good technical documentation. For the On Stage categories, we needed to have far more financial resources than we did because even some humanoid robots from other countries took part in the competition. We are so proud of all of our teams,” said the team leaders.

“We always look forward to the Rescue Line category, because our students work a lot on such projects, but this year we were not good enough. The tracks we too difficult, and some did not even follow the rules.”

In addition to the teams mentioned, Croatia was represented in Canada by following robotics teams.
