Total Croatia News

More Croatian innovation, as a group of green entrepreneurs launch a funding campaign to produce the first pencil created from organic waste.

Eduard Penkala would have been proud. The founder of the pen, his Croatian innovative pen creativity looks set to live on, as a group of green entrepeneurs in Croatia launched an Indiegogo fund-raising programme on November 23, 2015, to raise funds for the production of a pencil made 100% from organic waste.

The pencil, whose ingredients include organic waste from coffee, tea and petals, can also be used in a positive environmental way after use, as the company website Fabula explains:

“Fabula is a Green story about ideas-no-more-wasted. We believe you shouldn’t waste your ideas and potential. With Fabula organic pencil, your ideas are reborn & come alive! Fabula is a recycled pencil made in collaboration with nature, using organic waste materials coffee, tea & petals which are otherwise thrown away by coffee and flower shops.

“Inspired by an everyday coffee-drinking ritual that keeps you motivated, Fabula will make you freshly-inspired everytime you hold it. It’s made from recycled coffee, tea & petals! You can nurture your plants by sharpening Fabula on them, and when it becomes shorty, Fabula plants another inspiring plant- a goji berry!”

The company claims that one coffee shop could produce about 30kg of organic waste a month, which could instead be turned into 3000 pencils. The crowdfunding campaign aims to raise $15,000, which will be mostly spent on a special machine for manufacture, as the pencils are currently produced using time-consuming molds by hand.
