As Poslovni Dnevnik/Marta Duic writes on the 21st of October, 2020, thanks to the sponsorship of the webshop platform Mama Market, the sale of products created within the initiative “Gift with a story/Poklon s pričom” from the Zagreb Rehabilitation Centre (CERZE) has started.
Namely, in addition to primary services that include educational programmes and rehabilitation work, CERZE also operates through many international and Croatian projects, programmes and workshops, and one of them is the Gift with a Story initiative.
This particular initiative has been created in inclusive workshops where the users of the centre, as part of their occupational therapy, and with the help of assistants, participate in the production of products for children. Their idea was recognised by Tajana Knez and Ivana Fakin, the founders of Mama Market, a webshop platform intended for small Croatian producers in the field of products designed for babies and children.
“Every single human being can be socially useful and we make it possible for our users. We use the income from the sale of the works for the purchase of raw materials and, most importantly, for rewards for each of them, in order to provide them with additional motivation for their effort and work. We’re of the opinion that only together can we make changes and that’s why we really liked Mama Market, a project which acts as a joint sales platform for small producers. The Mama Market platform has provided us with the first official sales channel and we’re looking forward to telling a new story about a business that has its contribution to society in mind,” said Katarina Solakovic.
The platform itself officially started operating in March, and today – seven months later, Mama Market offers customers over 200 products for babies, children and motherhood all made by small Croatian manufacturers.
Fakin and Knez explain that with the support of mother-entrepreneurs, it is important for them to empower women and encourage women’s entrepreneurship, as well as encourage online sales, which are still poorly represented among small producers.
”Mama Market brings together the manufacturers of children’s equipment and products for babies, children and mothers from all over Croatia and allows them to sell products through the personal web shop of their company on the platform. With this platform, we create a unique place on the market where the customer can buy a safe product, exclusively of Croatian origin, and we influence the spread of awareness, about now more than ever, the current need to buy Croatian products. Thus, the basic idea of the project provides a benefit to small producers, while on the other hand it’s focused on the well-being of our customers and the creation of value here on our market. In addition to web shop activities, Mama Market also acts as a community that supports small entrepreneurs and is committed to the development of women’s entrepreneurship,” explained Knez.
Mama Market’s innovative founders also pointed out that they are positively surprised by the rich and innovative offer of various Croatian manufacturers, that they’re working on new collaborations and not lacking at all when it comes to other plans. Their first big plan is to open their platform to foreign markets, too.
“We need to adapt the platform to work with foreign countries, and then invest in advertising on the markets we’re targeting, primarily Slovenia, and then beyond. Our focus is to place the products of our members in some stores. We’re seeing market shifts that are being made for small businesses and that gives us a spring in our step,” Fakin concluded.
