The new model will be presented in Geneva in March.
Croatia’s Rimac Automobili has posted the first teaser of a new car model on its official website. The announcement video does not contain much information, except that the new car will not play by the current rules. “Why play by the rules, when you can change the game,” says the video announcement. We can only guess what this means, but it will certainly be interesting to see what Croatian entrepreneur Mate Rimac will prepare for March and the car exhibition in Geneva, reports Index.hr on January 25, 2018.
A post on the company’s Facebook page says that the model will be a hyper sports car, which is confirmed by the contours of the front end and the silhouette visible briefly in the video. The attractive electric coupe looks far edgier than the predecessor, perhaps because of its more aggressive lines.
The current model, Concept One, has also been offered in the sporty Concept S version, but the number of produced and sold units is not known. The latest official numbers are from February when the company reported eight cars sold, but there was also a promise that the new model would be produced in larger quantities.
On Thursday morning, additional information has been released. In addition to the news that the new car from Croatia will have the world premiere on 6 March in Geneva at the world’s most prestigious car exhibition, it is now clear that the new model will bring advancements in all areas. It will be larger and more comfortable than its predecessor, but at the same time it will deliver better performance, reports Autocar citing first-hand information.
Monica Mikac, a manager at Rimac Automobili, confirmed that the new model will be more comfortable, but also offer better performance. For example, the range will be greater than 350 km, which is also currently the case with the upgraded Concept One. The current model offers 1,224 bhp, takes 2.5 seconds to reach 100 kph, and has the top speed of 355 kph. The new model should be better in all aspects, and the only question is whether it will be better than Tesla Roadster which is expected by the end of the decade.
The same source has confirmed a further increase in price, so the new car will be more expensive than the predecessor, which almost certainly means breaking the one-million-euro barrier. Mikac said that the new Rimac’s car “would enter the same league as Pagani, Koenigsegg, and Bugatti,” and this will undoubtedly also refer to the price. Mikac is confident that the production will be drastically increased, with plans reaching as many as 100 cars. She is convinced that 20 cars will be sold during the first year.
Over the next few years, the product range will be expanded with the first roadster in the company’s history, and it will be particularly interesting to see how the roofing system will be implemented. Of course, Mikac confirmed the racing model as well, which will surely offer tremendous performance.
And while the car production is of greatest interest for the public, Rimac’s main products are still batteries. The company currently produces 100 batteries per year, but in the next few years, the production will grow to as many as 10,000 units, said Mikac for the British magazine.
