As Poslovni Dnevnik/Marta Duic writes, the idea for Popcorn Factory Zagreb project was born during the first lockdown in March 2020. After six months of preparation and the procurement of all the needed permits, machines and tools, as well as the establishment of a network of suppliers and partners and the equipment of the plant, the production of Croatian popcorn began.

Today, the Zagreb Popcorn Factory boasts 12 employees, and their Popup popcorn has penetrated both the Croatian and foreign markets in just a few months.

“For the vast majority of businesses, 2020 was more than challenging, but we recognised this situation as an opportunity and made a product that we didn’t have on the market at the time, while ensuring sustainability in terms of food supply and stock. The goal was to make a completely Croatian product that comes ‘from the field to the table’ in the full sense of the motto, which will always be able to reach customers in the event of any new threat to the economy.

Production is located in Bregana along the Bregana-Lipovac highway, and the capacity of the plant is more than 200,000 bags per month. We procure all of our raw materials for the regular Popup popcorn in Croatia, and in the beginning it was important for us to find partners who would ensure our procurement, but also those who can monitor our needs, which will certainly grow. In our popcorn, there is Kandit chocolate for cooking, we get salt from the Nin saltworks, our olive oil comes from Istria, the corn from the Vukovar area, we get spices from a famous Croatian brand, our popcorn bags are made in the vicinity of Bjelovar, and we pack them here in Zagreb. So, we can say that we have Croatian product.  We’re proud of such a profile of suppliers, because they’re all top brands and thus our product has the best ingredients,” explained Marijan Babic, the director of the Zagreb Popcorn Factory.

Some of the Zagreb Popcorn Factory’s products are offered in stores such as the Decentia chain, which has over 30 outlets in the City of Zagreb and its surroundings, and they have also reached the shelves of delicatessens and health food stores in Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik.
