Pininfarina has announced that it will collaborate with Croatia’s Rimac Automobili as the main technical partner on the production of its first PF0 electric hyper-car, reports Index.hr on September 28, 2018.
Rimac will provide the powerplant, software, hardware and battery system to help develop the first Pininfarina high-performance electric car.
The contract is worth 80 million euro.
Rimac Automobili said that the agreement is an important step for both sides. Pininfarina will get an innovative and successful partner, while Rimac Automobili will cooperate with a well-known brand and receive a contract for the serial production of key systems and technologies.
“We are excited about this challenge. The combination of our values – advanced technologies, innovations and high performances – with the tradition and the Italian design of Pininfarina is an ideal solution for an exciting new super sports car – PF0. This partnership is a major turning point for both companies and we look forward to cooperation and realization of this special car,” Mate Rimac said.
On behalf of Pininfarina, Michael Perschke, the CEO of the company, said that, since he met Mate Rimac, he knew that he and his team would be able to provide exactly what they needed in their new car. “From the moment I met Mate, I knew that he and his team in Rimac Automobili could provide the expertise to deliver an unforgettable driving experience which meets the high design standards set by Pininfarina. This collaboration links the future of electric performances with the legendary Pininfarina design in an exceptional car, PF0,” he said.
Pininfarina is owned by the Mahindra group, and in April 2018 they announced that they would devote themselves to luxury electric hyper-cars. The first such Pininfarina car, PF0, will be presented next year.
Automobili Rimac announced that, by introducing the C_Two model, a new generation of hyper-cars in 2018, they had become recognized as a manufacturer of high-performance electric cars. The company added that its expertise in the development of high-performance electric vehicles sets it up a key supplier of technology and electrification systems to many industrial partners, including Porsche, Aston Martin, Koenigsegg, Renault, CUPRA and, now, Pininfarina.
