Mayor Franković on Uber Protest: Dubrovnik Not Place for Taxi Blackmail

Lauren Simmonds

Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković hits back at taxi drivers blocking the road at Duboka Ljuta in protest of Uber.

Mato Franković has sent a public message to all taxi drivers from the City of Dubrovnik. The message is as follows:

”To all those taxi drivers who have expressed their dissatisfaction with Uber by not providing their services or blocking the road, we say that the City of Dubrovnik is not, and will not be the place for their blackmail. Problems with Uber are not solved in the City of Dubrovnik.

So far, the City of Dubrovnik has been a partner with the taxi drivers of the City of Dubrovnik and we have repeatedly emphasised that we do not support the way in which Uber works in any sense, and that their work is considered to be unlawful.

However, the partnership that we have developed so far has been interrupted because our fellow citizens and guests of our city can not get [access to] the services that City of Dubrovnik provides through taxis.

We expect all taxi drivers from the City of Dubrovnik to start providing their services as soon as possible.”
