July the 27th, 2023 – The Međimurje Adrenaline Park (Accredo) has been proving to be an increasingly popular tourist destination. This has especially been the case over the last couple of years, despite having been in business for ten.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Međimurje Adrenaline Park is a unique tourist destination in northwestern Croatia that has been frequented by lovers of fun and socialising in nature for more than a decade now. Although this area still grapples with being associated with a mere border and transit region, Međimurje County has seen a large increase in overnight stays over the last two years, reports HRT.

A dose of adrenaline in the rolling green hills of Međimurje

A ten-minute drive from Čakovec, in Zasadbreg, lies the so-called “factory of good emotions”. Paintball in the forest, axe throwing, climbing and other fun activities await visitors. They also organise quad tours through the rolling hills of picturesque Gornje Međimurje. This Međimurje Adrenaline Park readily took advantage of county incentives for helmets with microphones and headsets for easier guidance to popularise activities there even more.

“If the guide was to stop and approach everyone in each quad, have them take off their helmets and talk about what can be seen in the area, that takes a lot of time, and this way we got more time for them to drive around more and experience and see far more in beautiful Gornje Međimurje”, explained Martina Blažinčić, head of the Accredo adrenaline centre.

Tourism has been on the up

Excellent tourist indicators are the result of constant consideration of how to improve this Međimurje Adrenaline Park’s overall offer, but also of good cooperation within the local community.

“What I’m trying to achieve is the engagement of all local producers, and here I mean for example OPGs (family farms), we order our food from local OPGs, and we also engage accommodation capacities in our immediate surroundings,” explained Blažinčić.

A green oasis in the heart of Europe

“Our whole strategy in Međimurje as for it to be seen as a green oasis in the very heart of Europe is that tourism doesn’t simply end up happening to, but that it is proper curated and managed. We know where we are, we know what we want and we know where we’re going. We want to withdraw European Union (EU) funds in order to create a network of eco-museums and interpretation centres to promote the local history and heritage in each of our settlements,” stated Međimurje County Prefect Matija Posavec.

Cooperation, constant investments and support are proving to be a winning combination for this often overlooked region of Croatia’s tourism. In addition to last year’s record numbers, in the first six months of this year, according to eVisitor, Međimurje County recorded the highest percentage of overnight stays yet.
