Central celebration was held in Sinj
Catholics from Croatia and abroad gathered in Croatia’s Marian shrines today to celebrate the feast of the Assumption of Virgin Mary which is also a national holiday.
More than 500 000 visitors attended masses in Marija Bistrica, Aljmaš while the central celebration was held in Sinj which also celebrated the 300th anniversary ofthe defence of the town from the Ottoman army. It is believed this miraculous event was assisted by the Virgin Mary herself.
Central mass in Sinj was lead by Zagreb Archbishop, Cardinal Josip Bozanić who was named his envoy by the Pope for this particular occasion. Cardinal Bozanić noted that celebrations in Sinj unite all Croats from all regions and that togetherness and unity is exactly what the country needs today.
