The Town of Sveti Ivan Zelina is gearing up for the 49th Continental Croatia Wine Fair, to be held on 2 and 3 June. As is customary, it will be an exhibition of the most valued wines of continental Croatia, but also a gastronomical and music event not to be missed.

“I invite all wine admirers, as well as those that will become one, to Sveti Ivan Zelina to this fair. For half a century this prestigious manifestation has taken place and we strive each year for the basic oenology programme to be enriched with other events and better than the previous. So, don’t miss the Fair!” These were the words of the Organisation Committee President and Zelina Mayor, Hrvoje Koščec.

Hundreds of samples of wine will take part in the rating from the entire continental area of Croatia for the expert oenologists to taste and award the best ones. The expert jury will give out awards in several categories, and one of the favourite of Zelina residents is the category of the Kraljevina variety which they declared their brand.

Besides the wine, the visual identity of the product will also be rated, with an award in a special category for the most impressive aesthetic whole composed of the bottle, label, cap but also the quality of information about the wine on the label.

On the second day the domestic gastronomy forces will take the lead, with a special mention of Chef Tomislav Špiček who will be assisted by popular Mario Valentić as a synonym of healthy diet and exercise. Food will be provided for visitors with a recommendation which varieties they go well with.

The price of a tasting glass on Friday is 70 and on Saturday 50 kuna, which is very affordable considering the performances of musicians and provided food, compared to similar manifestations.

“Both days of the manifestation in Sveti Ivan Zelina will be guided by our host and Miss Universe Jelena Glišić. On the first day all visitors will be entertained by Zvonko Bogdan and on the second day the band Kužiš Stari Moj,” announced Marinka Zubčić, Director of Zelina Tourism Board and one of the most successful tourism workers in the County.

Sveti Ivan Zelina has a rich history of wine production and is one of the more significant Croatian towns in the development of wine culture and tradition. The first wine fair in the area was held in 1860. The patron of the Continental Croatia Wine Fair is the Croatian government.
