February the 29th, 2024 – One of the Croatian capital’s big issues is parking, and news of a large new Zagreb garage spaced out over three floors and boasting 800 spaces will be very welcome to drivers.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the City of Zagreb is set to launch an important traffic project soon. A new Zagreb garage, which will be open to the general public, is on the cards to answer at least some of the capital’s parking problems. The new Zagreb garage location will be below the school playground in Klaićeva.
“This is a project that has been promised for decades, it has been talked about for the past two decades, but nothing has ever been done. We’re changing that, we’re going to build a public garage with around 800 parking spaces on three underground floors”, announced Zagreb’s mayor Tomislav Tomašević.
The mayor explained that the layout of public garages in the western part of the city centre is such that there is not enough garage capacities to close the ring around the narrower city centre. “The construction of this new Zagreb garage will reduce the overall flow of vehicles into the very heart of Zagreb,” said Tomašević.
The design and technical documentation will also analyse the needs of Zagreb’s stationary traffic with regard to the location of the Zagreb Children’s Clinic, the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Surveying, the Westin Hotel, the Croatian National Theatre, and the general entire area of the Donji Grad (Lower Town) district.
The future public garage will be designed in close accordance with all of the principles of modern construction. Modern architectural expression will be used, involving high technological and aesthetic levels harmonised with conservation conditions. Close consideration will also be paid to the landscape and all of the surrounding buildings, taking into account the functionality and economy of the garage. In addition to ensuring more vehicular and pedestrian entrances/exits from the new Zagreb garage and accessibility for people with disabilities, an integral part of the project documentation is also a presentation of the complete solution of the plot with a horticultural solution, according to the City of Zagreb’s statements on the matter.
The new Zagreb garage will be built under the current high school playground, and after its completion, the playground itself will be modernised with some new facilities. The playground will have sports fields for athletic disciplines, an athletic circuit, a long jump and triple jump, a training ground with equipment or an obstacle course, ball sports fields, handball and indoor football fields, and last but by no means least – basketball courts.
Next week, an open public procurement procedure will be launched for the selection of a designer to create the conceptual, main and executive project for the construction of the future Klaićeva garage. The deadline for creating the project is nine months from the date of signing the record of introduction to the works, and the estimated value of the service currently stands at 650,000.00 euros (without VAT).
