July the 27th, 2025 – The City of Osijek and the Croatian company Končar have agreed an 18.5 million euro contract for new trams for the modernisation of the city’s fleet.
As Mladen Miletic/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Končar has signed its second individual contract with the company Gradski prijevoz passarancija Osijek (GPP). This contract falls within the Framework Agreement for the procurement of new trams for the modernisation of Osijek’s tram fleet, worth a total of 18.5 million euros.
The contract was financed from the public call of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, and the deadline for the implementation of the contract and the delivery of all 10 vehicles is 24 months. The signed contract is a continuation of the successful cooperation between Osijek and Končar, particularly with the aforementioned GPP, which began with the signing of the first individual contract for the procurement of 10 low-floor trams back in September 2023.
Thus far, multiple low-floor trams have been handed over. The tram and all its important subsystems are the result of our own development, in the production of which several companies of the Končar Group participate.
“Osijek is currently positioning itself as a city of the future – a city that is constantly developing, cherishing its history, but at the same time boldly building a modern, technologically advanced and sustainable future. What makes us particularly proud is the fact that the people of Osijek have recognised the quality, comfort and safety that our trams provide, and this is the greatest confirmation of the value of the project for us. That’s why this cooperation is even more precious to us,” said the company’s CEO, Gordan Kolak.
The Mayor of Osijek, Ivan Radić, pointed out that by purchasing an additional 10 trams, the City of Osijek will increase its fleet to a total of 20 new low-floor trams. That sum will complete the fleet needed for the entire city. This means that only modern low-floor trams will be in service, while the old models will no longer be operating on the city streets.
“Osijek has already signed a contract for the purchase of the first ten low-floor trams with Končar, and the delivery is proceeding according to plan. The sixth tram arrived on Thursday, while five are already operating on the streets of Osijek. People are thrilled with these new vehicles, which are safer, more modern and more comfortable compared to the previous trams,” explained Mayor Radić.
Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković pointed out that Osijek is currently one of the largest “construction sites” in all of Croatia in the field of transport infrastructure and its modernisation.
“We’re witnessing its continued positioning as a city that is systematically building its future in accordance with European standards of sustainable mobility and a healthier urban environment. Osijek is a positive example thanks to the numerous investments that are being made in all aspects of transport, from road to air, maritime and rail,” he concluded.
