65 Million Kuna for New Phones for Members of Government

Lauren Simmonds

Phones don’t come cheap nowadays, but 65 million kuna is pushing it, just a bit…

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 19th of December, 2017, aside from 10,800 mobile phones, the Central State Procurement Office has also purchased the necessary tariffs and mobile internet, as well as 5900 modems for wireless internet access. All this will be paid over the next two years, at a cost of 65.3 million kuna including VAT. Hardly loose change.

The most interesting of all to the general public is undoubtedly the en-masse purchase of mobile phones, the categories of which have been divided into three basic groups, apparently in accordance with the rank of officials who are receiving the devices.

The newest models for various ministries, the Office of the President, the Central State Office, as well as a number of other public institutions will be purchased. Of course, there will be nothing less than top, modern Android and iOS devices, and with regard to the specifications and the abilities of the phones, it’s clear we’re talking about top of the range, expensive devices.

As far as Android phones are concerned, the state clearly states that it wants devices with screens of at least 5.2 inches and a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels, and an eight-core processor with at least 4GB of work memory.

Aside from trusty Android devices, some of this year’s Apple iPhones are also available. Specifications indicate that the phone should have a screen of at least 4.7 inches and more than 64GB of memory, meaning that the ”cheapest” iPhone 8 is one of the choices, as well as the slightly more expensive iPhone 8 Plus and the much talked about iPhone X, the most expensive Apple phone that is available for sale racks up 8690 kuna. The iPhone 8 is on sale at a price of 5500 kuna, and for the more expensive 8 Plus model, the price is a handsome 6390 kuna.
