ZAGREB, March 23, 2018 – Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Friday expressed satisfaction with the UK government’s decision to lift restrictions on the hiring of Croatian nationals as of July 1.

“Yesterday and this morning I spoke with Prime Minister Theresa May and expressed my satisfaction with the fact that, after the letter I sent to her in January and our conversation, as well as after the visit of the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union David Davis to Zagreb, Great Britain decided to lift restrictions on the hiring of Croatian nationals as of July 1,” Plenković said.

“Reciprocally, Croatia has lifted restrictions on UK nationals. This way, regardless of the outcome of Brexit negotiations, Croatian citizens will have the same rights as other EU nationals. This is a key achievement we have been striving to attain, the achievement we made through our efforts and coordination with the Brexit negotiator Michael Barnier,” Plenković said after the EU summit in Brussels.

Restrictions on Croatian workers are still in place in Austria, the Netherlands and Slovenia.
