The police identified and arrested three men suspected of the assault.
Three asylum seekers, one from Bosnia and Herzegovina, one from Syria and one from Macedonia, are suspected that on Thursday, in an accommodation centre in the Zagreb area, they drugged and sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman from Zagreb, reports Jutarnji List on February 20, 2017.
According to unofficial sources, the police reported to the Municipal Attorney’s Office a 40-year-old from Bosnia and Herzegovina, a 30-year-old from Syria and a 44-year-old from Macedonia for the crime of sexual intercourse without consent. Investigating judge from the Velika Gorica County Court ordered the detention of the suspects in remand prison.
Accusations against them were filed by the 22-year-old woman immediately after the incident on Thursday. She said that the three men first got her drunk and then drugged her in their room, and that later they sexually assaulted her. The woman said that she was conscious throughout the assault, but that she could not stand up due to the influence of drugs. She also said that she drank alcohol with them, and that later they gave her tablets of a drug which is normally used in the treatment of epilepsy.
The woman’s blood was immediately sent for laboratory analysis, but the results are still pending. All three men deny that the crime occurred. Two of them say that the intercourse was voluntary, while the man from Macedonia denies they had sex at all. They all claim that the woman decided to report them after they refused to give her money.
All four told the police that they met two days earlier, on Tuesday, while the two men were waiting for a bus at a station. They exchanged phone numbers and continued to hang out the next day. On Thursday, the men invited the woman to the centre in which they are accommodated. However, from the moment of her arrival to the room, they stories start to diverge.
While the men claim that she asked for money in return for her sexual services, she said that they started drinking alcohol and they soon gave her the pills. According to the woman, after she fell into a state of complete numbness, but remained conscious, she was first raped by the man from Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by two of his roommates.
