Big Plans of the Zagreb Mayor Before the Next Local Elections

Total Croatia News

Some ambitious plans from Zagreb mayor Milan Bandic.

The cable car system on the Sljeme Mountain and the reconstruction of the large roundabout in Novi Zagreb are the two most important projects which the mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandić wants to get under way to finish this term in office and enter the next term, reports Vecernji List on September 10, 2015.

He pointed out that these projects are important not only to him, but also to all citizens of Zagreb. “The citizens of Zagreb are eagerly waiting for these two projects, that want them desperately. I did ask them what they think about it, these two projects have not been conceived only in my brain”, explained Bandić. According to his promises, the Sljeme cable car project will be started by the end of next year, while the reconstruction of the roundabout will solve one of the major traffic problems in the city.

“Forty percent of all cars which enter Zagreb go through that roundabout and that is the problem which simply has to be solved”, he said. In addition to the two projects, Bandić said that, after the property issues are resolved, the reconstruction of the Branimirova Street will finally be continued and that the “Bandić Fountains” will follow after that.

“We have solved 95 percent of the problems, and now just hours are separating us from the start of the construction works. First, we will start with the Branimirova Street, and only then with the fountains, because the journalists would otherwise crucify me”, said Bandić.

“The Radnička street will be the most beautiful street in Zagreb, we are going to reconstruct seven kilometres of the street”, said the mayor talking about yet another project. However, while the mayor is discussing the projects which will take him to the next term, the opposition has a different opinion: “Bandić has yet to gain support for the next budget. If he does not get it, the early elections will have to be held and a new battle for the post of mayor will follow.” However, the mayor is sure of his victory.
