The European Film Academy (EFA) has decided to select the film “Zvizdan” (The High Sun) by director Dalibor Matanić among the 52 best European films which will continue to compete for nominations for the 28th European Film Awards, the so-called “European Oscars”. On the list of the films selected for possible nomination for the European Film Awards 2015 there are movies from 36 European countries, which illustrates the great diversity of European cinema, said EFA in a statement, reports Jutarnji List on September 10, 2015.

More than three thousand members of the European Film Academy will vote for the nominations in the categories of best European film, director, actor, actress and screenwriter, and the nominations will be announced on 7 November at the European Film Festival in Seville in Spain. The winners of the awards for best cinematography, editing, art direction, costumes, music and sound editing will be decided by a seven-member jury.

The European Film Awards will be presented at an award ceremony that will take place in Berlin on 12 December.

“Zvizdan”, a story about forbidden love in three different decades, premiered in the “Un Certain Regard” selection at the Cannes Film Festival, where the director Matanić won the Jury Prize. The film was also screened at the festivals in Karlovy Vary, Odessa, Melbourne and Sarajevo, where it won a CICIAE International Confederation of Art Cinemas award.

At this year’s Pula Film Festival, Matanić’s film won the Golden Arena for the best film, best director, best actress (Tihana Lazović), best supporting actress (Nives Ivanković), best supporting actor (Dado Ćosić) and best costumes (Ana Savić Gecan).
