ZAGREB, April 27, 2018 – The Croatian Parliament’s Conflict of Interest Commission decided by a majority vote on Friday that Finance Minister Zdravko Marić did not breach the relevant law by attending two meetings on the ailing food and retail conglomerate Agrokor and that he protected his integrity and credibility as Finance Minister at those meetings.
Addressing the commission earlier in the day, Marić said that he attended a meeting on 26 February 2017 and that at the meeting he answered questions put to him by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković concerning a loan from the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) to Agrokor.
With regard to the meeting of 3 March 2017, Marić said that he conveyed the government’s concern and proposals for resolving the crisis in Agrokor but that he did not state his personal opinion or make any recommendations or conclusions, the commission ruled.
Marić used to work for Agrokor before becoming the finance minister in 2016.
