Total Croatia News

Croatian election date almost finalised.

An extraordinary session of parliament will begin on Tuesday, September 8, a week before the regular session was supposed to start, reports Večernji List. Its sources say that the ruling coalition has made the decision that the parliament will be dissolved before September 22. These decisions have very important consequences, because they mean that the parliamentary elections will be held no later than November 15, since the elections must be scheduled no earlier than 30 days and no later than 60 days after the dissolution of parliament. President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović will have to choose the date for the elections among October 25, November 1, November 8 or November 15 at the latest, reports Vecernji List on September 1, 2015.

The speaker of the parliament Josip Leko will today convene an extraordinary session of the parliament starting next Tuesday. The proposal for the extraordinary session of parliament came from the government. According to law, the parliament can be extraordinarily convened at the request of the president, the government or the majority of all members of parliament.

The government today held a conference call meeting and has decided to submit five bills to the parliament, as well as to send the request for an extraordinary session of the parliament to be convened. The government has requested the extraordinary session of the parliament due to the need to consider the proposed legislative bills.
