Croatian president meets Chinese businesses in Shanghai.
Chinese companies should build logistics and production facilities near Croatian sea ports, said Croatian president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović in Shanghai, one of the engines of Chinese economic growth, where she met with businesspeople from both countries at the offices of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, reports Poslovni.hr on October 18, 2015.
During the meeting with representatives of some of the most important Chinese companies based in Shanghai, the president particularly emphasized the importance of Croatian sea ports. She called on the representatives of financial institutions to support the strengthening of the Croatian-Chinese economic cooperation, and said that political relations between the two countries are excellent, adding that during the talks she had with the Chinese political leadership in Beijing they agreed that there is great potential for improvement of economic cooperation.
She pointed out that Croatia can be interesting to China due to its geostrategic position and membership in the European Union, but specific investment projects still need to be negotiated. For this purpose, it is necessary to start planning cooperation, connect companies more closely and encourage them to invest, said the president. Representatives of Chinese companies then presented their areas of interest and their plans for economic cooperation with Croatia.
In addition to about thirty representatives of interested Chinese companies, the meeting in Shanghai was attended by representatives of Croatian companies already present on the Chinese market and those who are starting this process, such as Podravka, Badel, Uniline and Uljanik.
The president continued her state visit to China with the meeting with mayor of Shanghai Yang Xiong. During the meeting, president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović commented on the already existing cooperation between Croatia and Shanghai. She specifically pointed out the friendship between Shanghai and Zagreb which has been continuing for more than 35 years, as well as the participation of Croatia at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. She discussed with the mayor the possibilities of strengthening economic cooperation between Croatia and the city of Shanghai.
