First Deputy Prime Minister says he will ask the Commission for Conflict of Interest Prevention to investigate the case of his wife’s company.

First Deputy Prime Minister and HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko said in a written statement on Tuesday that he would send an official request to the Commission for Conflict of Interest Prevention to thoroughly investigate the case related to the cooperation of the company owned by his wife and MOL lobbyist Josip Petrović, reports Jutarnji List on May 10, 2016.

“As for the allegations about a possible conflict of interest of me personally, due to cooperation between the company owned by my wife with another private company, during the time when I was not a member of the government, I announce that I will today personally send an official request to the Commission for Conflict of Interest Prevention to launch detailed investigation of this case and to inform the public about results. Throughout my career, I have always strictly separated private and professional issues, especially when it comes to sensitive issues of national interest, and I will continue to do so in the future”, said Karamarko in a statement sent from the government.

Karamarko pointed out that his wife’s company had been a target of investigations by various state bodies like Police Office for Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime, the Tax Administration and various inspections several times in recent years, solely in order, according to Karamarko, to create political pressure on him personally. “None of these state bodies ever found the slightest irregularity”, said Karamarko.
