Former President Mesić Worried About Croatia’s Policy towards Bosnia

ZAGREB, August 30, 2018 – Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesić said in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, that the ruling structures in Zagreb and Belgrade were insufficiently clear about Bosnia and Herzegovina’s territorial integrity and that he expected the country’s current structure, based on two entities, to eventually be changed and the country to become whole again.

“Both Zagreb and Belgrade are sending messages that they support Bosnia and Herzegovina’s integrity and then comes a ‘but’. When I was Croatia’s president, I used to tell Bosnia and Herzegovina’s citizens, including Croats, that Bosnia and Herzegovina is their homeland and that their capital city is Sarajevo,” Mesić said in a speech he held at a ceremony at which he was named an honorary citizen of Zenica-Doboj Canton.

The former president also noted that it was bad that the country’s international administration had been stripped of the power to sanction domestic politicians who advocate the country’s division.

He also called for abolishing entity borders within Bosnia and Herzegovina, describing them as unnatural.
