HDZ decides when its new (old) leadership will be elected
At the meeting of party bodies, the Presidency and the Main Committee, HDZ decided on the schedule for its intraparty elections.
The first round of elections for HDZ president, according to the one member one vote principle, will take place on 17 April. The party congress will be held on 28 May when the delegates will choose members of the Presidency, party vice-presidents, and members of other party bodies, reports Večernji List on March 8, 2016.
In order to run for party president, it is necessary to collect 5,000 signatures within 13 days starting from today. So far, it is known that one of the candidates will be the current president and First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko. Ivica Jurjević from Zadar has also announced that he would seek the position of party president.
All members of HDZ, regardless of whether they pay party membership fees or not, will be able to vote and be elected in the party elections, except for high officials who will not be able to take part if they do not regularly pay membership fees. It seems that HDZ has therefore given up on the idea that only those who pay membership fees will be able to participate in the party electoral processes.
The public was informed about all these decision by HDZ secretary general Milijan Brkić who said he could not estimate how many candidates will ultimately run for the post of party president, but added that he certainly would not be one of them.
Talking about his candidacy for the veterans affairs minister, Brkić said that Prime Minister Orešković has not invited him for an interview. When he receives the invitation, Brkić said he would meet with the prime minister and inform him about his conditions under which he would be prepared to accept the post.
