In a Christmas Message, MOST Attacks SDP and Warns HDZ

A message of Christmas cheer from MOST for the main political parties.

On its Facebook profile, MOST sent an unusual Christmas message to other political parties and the public, reports Index.hr on December 26, 2015..

“This is a Christmas which will surely be remembered in Croatia. MOST is now in the middle of the ocean and sharks are approaching. Croatia Is Growing coalition will never forgive us because we have destroyed their opportunity to continue with four years of doing nothing. One part of the public is hitting us hard because they feel cheated, while our current partner Patriotic Coalition considers us as a bridge which will enable them to come to power.

We are not naive or blind. We just need time. For now, we are partners of the Patriotic Coalition. For now. If they attempt to ‘suck us in’ – we will leave. After the debacle with Croatia Is Growing coalition, we were thinking about new elections. But, we have to be realistic: we would finish again with the same stalemate. This was our only chance to make changes.

We have won our first battle. We have a non-partisan expert who can manage large systems. All those people who have been present in the political arena for years no longer represent our country. It is represented by a respectable man, a businessman who, if he knows how to earn money for himself, will know how to earn it for Croatia as well. Of course, we will watch him closely.

Give us time, be our support. For the first time, we have a new situation in Croatia. Let us prove ourselves. We wish you a peaceful and blessed Christmas. And do not forget, it was not us who have stolen your Christmas. They have been stealing it for the last twenty years. And with a professional and non-partisan new prime minister, we are trying to get it back for you”, reads the message from MOST.

Political scientist Dražen Lalić believes that members of MOST are displaying their nervousness. “MOST is like a nervous young bride who gave her word to the groom and now has to marry him, but she is not sure whether it was a good decision”, Lalić said.

Political scientist Berto Šalaj does not consider the message to be too dramatic. “It is an attempt to appease their conscience, because they have broken their election promise – just like they decided, without any real reason, to leave the negotiations with SDP and side with HDZ, although from the perspective of reforms, SDP’s offer of the post of prime minister for MOST would have allowed them to better control the implementation of reforms they talk about”, he said.

“They explicitly say that this coalition agreement is just ‘for now’, so I think that the public has reasons to be worried by the letter”, Lalić said.
