One of leaders of MOST says he can no longer cooperate with HDZ.

Ivan Kovačić resigned this morning as the leader of the MOST Parliamentary Group, reports Jutarnji List on April 28, 2016.

He announced his decision in an official statement addressed to the media and citizens.

“On Monday, I announced my personal decision to terminate cooperation with HDZ. I think that it is clear that after that I cannot be a representative of any other MP except myself. Therefore, I can no longer be the leader of the MOST Parliamentary Group.

I would like to apologize to MPs from MOST, whom I sincerely wish to succeed in improving Croatia. Everybody else, they have no idea what kind of battle MOST is waging. And what kind of orchestrated attacks are being experienced by people who have only dared to try to change the political situation in Croatia.

When we decided to go with HDZ, I was one of those who had completely accepted that decision. Whenever there were public conflicts, I personally organized meetings between MOST and HDZ leadership out of reach of cameras in order to calm the tensions down and renew our cooperation. During the last several months, I was one of the most conciliatory and constructive persons on both sides.

After everything that happen in Omiš in local elections, I gave them my confidence at the national level and encouraged MOST to make concessions wherever it was possible. For example, after we had already negotiated quotas for ministers, deputies and assistants, and when they agreed to it, as the MOST coordinator I gave them more posts in government just to show our good will. And now, they have ‘returned the favour’ to me in Omiš.

They are telling me I should not mix local and national level, and that I should not interfere in their ‘yard’. Fine, they can install their old charlatans wherever they want, both locally and nationally. OK, I do not have a right to interfere in your job. That is your choice. But, you should allow me my right – to free myself from you both locally and nationally. I have no intention of being a clown. That is my choice.”
