It was previously announced that Member of Parliament Ivan Pernar would be Živi Zid’s candidate.
Member of Parliament Ivan Lovrinović (Let’s Change Croatia) will be a joint candidate for mayor of Zagreb of Živi Zid, Let’s Change Croatia, and several other smaller parties, announced Živi Zid secretary general Tihomir Lukanić at a press conference, reports Nacional on April 22, 2017.
Lovrinović said that, after he becomes the mayor, he would first “open the doors and windows of all the offices from which the City of Zagreb is ruled, in order to clear the air.” “There have never been more abandoned business premises in this city, more people with frozen bank accounts, unemployed. There have never been more people who are leaving Zagreb, and we all know that 10 or 20 years ago everyone wanted to move to Zagreb. This city needs a new, fresh mayor,” said Lovrinović.
President of Živi Zid and Member of Parliament Ivan Vilibor Sinčić said that his party had already started collecting signatures which are required to make the candidacy official. “We have once again shown that for us, Živi Zid, political positions are not important. We do not care about positions on candidate lists. We are only interested in having the best result and the best election manifesto and for Zagreb to be a better place to live. I have travelled around Croatia in recent months and I have sent the same message everywhere – we are fighting against nepotism, against those who have been in power, and everybody knows who has been in power for the last 16 years in the city of Zagreb. We all know what has happened in Zagreb,” said Sinčić.
“Without those who are in power you cannot do anything. They hold everything, and if you are with them, then you can do absolutely everything. Therefore, we want to institute a positive selection process where candidates will be rated according to their work ethics and level of education, and not according to who their cousins or friends are. We demand for the best people to be appointed to the right positions, and that is one of our main policies,” said Sinčić. He announced that a more detailed manifesto would be presented next week.
Member of Parliament Ivan Pernar (Živi Zid), who was previously mentioned as a potential candidate of Živi Zid for the mayor of Zagreb and announced as such by party president Sinčić, said he was happy to support Lovrinović.
“I believe that this is a strategic decision in the interest of the citizens of Zagreb and that our coalition is the winning coalition despite all the rumours which have been reported in the media in the past. We are still together, we will run together at these elections as well. We were successful at presidential elections, we were a surprise at the parliamentary elections, and now we have a last step ahead of us – the local elections in May when we expect to achieve a major success,” said Pernar.
