ZAGREB, August 13, 2018 – A police investigation is underway into the case of a group of migrants, two of whom were found dead, in Drežnica Forest near the Croatian town of Ogulin on Sunday morning, and law enforcement authorities still cannot give any new information due to the complexity of the probe, the police spokeswoman Senka Staroveski said at a news conference in Karlovac on Sunday afternoon.

Karlovac County police, acting on a tip from local residents at about eight o’clock, found a group of 12 migrants in a forest in the village of Drežnica, some 100 kilometres southwest of Zagreb. According to the first information released by the police, there were two dead migrants in that group.

Spokeswoman Staroveski said later in the day that she could not provide reporters with any information about ethnicity, age or gender of the migrants found in the forest. More information can be expected on Monday, according to her.

A rising number of migrants coming via western Bosnia and passing through Croatia on their way to west and north Europe has been spotted on this route through Karlovac County recently.
