ZAGREB, March 4, 2018 – The main committee of Croatia’s strongest opposition party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), on Saturday adopted a draft of its new platform “For a Good Society” and put it forward to the party’s convention, scheduled for next Saturday, which is expected to adopt the document.
SDP lawmaker Arsen Bauk said that, after 22 years, SDP would get a new programme and added that the document would inaugurate the term “moral capitalism”, one focusing on “positive social values.”
Asked by the press whether a party with approval ratings of below 20%, whose leader enjoys the support of 32% of those polled, could be an alternative to the current ruling coalition, Bauk answered in the affirmative.
The main author of the programme Davorko Vidović, a former Labour Minister, said before the main committee’s meeting that the document contained a lot of novelties that could change “the paradigm of politics and it is important to turn to ordinary citizens”. He said it was important that the document should receive the support of a majority of citizens.
