Almost a month since the elections, and discussions still ongoing.
Ivan Lovrinović, MOST’s member of parliament, said yesterday that MOST wants to nominate the new Croatian prime minister, who should be a person with emotional and social intelligence and ethical values. “The important thing is what is a prime minister”, Lovrinović said in an interview with Croatian Radio. People usually think that a prime minister must be a “walking encyclopaedia”, he said and added that prime minister rather must have around him or her world-class experts, people who know how to solve this serious crisis, reports Vecernji List on December 6, 2015.
“We did not come to play here, we want to form a high-quality government and the process will not drag on, we are not going to slow it down”, Lovrinović added. “We never said that we do not want to participate in the government. We are demanding reforms and we cannot ask someone else to carry them out, because perhaps they do not have a desire do to that. For those positions in government for which we do not have quality people, we will search for them on the market”, Lovrinović said. He added that MOST does not fear new elections, but will try to do everything that they do not happen. He assessed that it was more likely that a government will be formed.
Leaders of the two major political groups Croatia Is Growing coalition and Patriotic Coalition, Zoran Milanović and Tomislav Karamarko, will meet on Monday with leaders of MOST for a joint meeting in order to find a way out of the current political stalemate. MOST still insists on a government composed of experts and believes that the next prime minister should also be an expert.
Yesterday evening, SDP president Zoran Milanović and representatives of Živi Zid – Ivan Vilibor Sinčić, Vladimira Palfi and Josip Novosel – met for two hours at the SDP headquarters. After the meeting ended, Sinčić gave a short statement saying that they were not negotiating with SDP, but just discussing the situation in the country.
“We have said that, if next time there is a new independent candidate for Speaker of the Parliament, we are going to support that person”, said Palfi. She added that the conversation was very pleasant and that they did not discuss the issue of forming the government.
Ivan Vilibor Sinčić, who is Živi Zid’s only member of parliament, said they did not talk about possibly giving their support to Milanović for the position of prime minister-designate. “For now, until someone gets a majority, we are not going to support anyone. But, if our vote becomes a crucial one, we will then consider whether and whom to support”, Palfi said.
