ZAGREB, May 28, 2018 – Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Monday that the National Security Council meeting had gone very well and added that the Hotmail scandal had not been discussed at that meeting.

“It was an excellent meeting. We agreed about everything, about all three topics,” the prime minister told reporters at the end of the Croatian Armed Forces Day ceremony celebrating the 27th anniversary of the formation of the country’s armed forces, adding that the details of the meeting were confidential and that he could not discuss them.

The National Security Council meeting was convened jointly by Plenković and President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović on Monday morning. It reviewed issues related to information security in state institutions and stressed the need for systematic training in that area with the aim of strengthening the security awareness and culture.

Also discussed were current issues regarding bilateral relations between Croatia and neighbouring countries, as well as the security aspects of migrations toward the EU and Croatia.

The Hotmail scandal, which involved private correspondence between former economy minister Martina Dalić and consultants engaged in the drafting of a bill concerning the indebted Agrokor food and retail conglomerate, was not discussed, Plenković told reporters and added that “information security” was discussed at the meeting.

Asked whether there had been any omissions by the intelligence-security service, Plenković said that that wasn’t discussed. Asked whether he had spoken to the president regarding her proposal for a special joint cabinet session with her that would be dedicated to the demographic issue, the prime minister said: “Demographic issues are important. We will review that topic and when the time comes we will discuss it.”
