Support from Croatia’s business community to PM Oreskovic’s reform plans.
The new Croatian Prime Minister-Designate Tihomir Tim Orešković has still not announced the names which will be included in his cabinet. The only thing that is known is that deputy prime ministers will be MOST leader Božo Petrov and HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko. Unofficial sources announced yesterday which reforms and key projects will be the first order of business for the new Prime Minister, reports Index.hr on December 28, 2015.
There are three key reforms – public administration reform, reform of the healthcare system and the reduction in the large number of various government agencies and bodies. As far as key projects are concerned, unofficial sources claim that they are: construction of a lowland railway line between Rijeka and Zagreb, acceleration of the LNG terminal project on the island of Krk and the irrigation project for Slavonia.
Orešković plans to strengthen the economy, which makes Croatian entrepreneurs understandably very satisfied. Most of them believe that Orešković is a great choice for the next Croatian Prime Minister because of the knowledge and experience acquired during his long and lucrative career. Josipa Maslač Petričević believes that Orešković will manage to turn Croatia into a country of social well-being, and also thinks that with his rich experience and knowledge he can help bring the country to a level where everyone will live better.
Her opinion is shared by Ivan Topčić. “Those of us who work in business are very satisfied. So far we have always had politicians as the head of government, and we can see where that has brought us to. Now, we have a man who came from the business world. His task is to speed up the public administration system. Since he used to work on major financial deals, I believe that he will know how to lead this country”, Topčić said.
MOST has announced that it will meet with the Prime Minister-Designate during the day. One of MPs from MOST said that all members of MOST parliamentary party are satisfied with Orešković as the choice for the new prime minister. “We are all very pleased. He is a man who can bring changes that we expect. When we meet with him, we will talk about more specific issues”, said the member of parliament from MOST.
