ZAGREB, Oct 13, 2020 – Parliament will continue sitting on Wednesday and Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic will once again chair the session after recovering from the coronavirus he contracted in early October.
The Speaker has recovered, he is well and will chair the session, Jandrokovic’s office confirmed on Tuesday.
Deputy Speaker Zeljko Reiner, who has been in self-isolation due to having contact with an infected person, is also returning to his duties.
I have been in self-isolation for 14 days, I did not have any symptoms, I was not positive, Reiner told Hina.
Lawmakers will debate six items on the agenda this week – amendments to the law on judicial cooperation with EU member states, and reports on probation services as well as the work of correctional institutions in 2019.
Justice and Public Administration Minister Ivan Malenica said recently that prisons were intended for 3,919 prisoners yet 12,600 passed through the system.
“A constant increase in the number of people in investigative custody is noticeable,” he said presenting a report to the cabinet and added that the increase in 2019 can be related to illegal entry and movement in Croatia by people attempting to reach other EU countries.
Explaining the report on probation services, Malenica said that last year 3,824 cases had been submitted while 3,873 were completed and that probationers had done 610,00 hours of community service.
He explained that the amendments to the law on judicial cooperation with EU member states ensure the implementation of a regulation adopted in 2018 regarding suspension of confiscation orders that will enter into force on 19 December 2020.
The bill defines the competent bodies in county courts to process confiscation orders and their suspension, he said.
