Security Intelligence Agency Director Dragan Lozančić taken off the parliamentary agenda.

Although it was expected that the Parliamentary Committee for Interior Policy and National Security would today discuss the dismissal of the Security Intelligence Agency Director Dragan Lozančić, the issue was taken off the agenda of today’s meeting, at the request of members of Parliament coming from the ruling Patriotic Coalition. At the beginning of the meeting, Miroslav Tuđman (HDZ) said that he disagreed with the proposed agenda which included the debate on the dismissal of Lozančić, reports Vecernji List on February 18, 2016.

The agenda was then put to a vote, and it was voted down by votes coming from members of HDZ, HSLS, MOST, and a representative of the Albanian national minority who belongs to the Milan Bandić Party parliamentary group. Ines Strenja Linić (MOST) had earlier repeatedly said she would like for Lozančić to be invited to testify in front of the Committee, but has apparently changed her mind.

Lozančić’s dismissal was signed by President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović two weeks ago, but he is still in his post because the dismissal also requires the agreement of Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković, who has not yet decided whether he would support the dismissal. In her decision, the president said that she had lost confidence in Lozančić and that he had acted contrary to the law.

The Committee also announced a public invitation for president and members of the Council for Civil Oversight of Security and Intelligence Services, since the term of the previous council expired in October last year.

Chairman of the Committee Ranko Ostojić (SDP) asked the Committee secretary to prepare for the next meeting a public call for members of the Council for Civil Oversight over the Application of Police Powers. “That body has been unsuccessfully addressed during the previous term, but it is equally important for the civil control over the services”, said Ostojić. That marked the end of the open part of the committee session. Members then went into a closed session to discuss other issues.
