MOST leader Božo Petrov reacts to yesterday’s debate.
MOST leader Božo Petrov reacted to the debate between HDZ president Andrej Plenković and SDP president Zoran Milanović, which took place on Friday evening, reports N1 on August 13, 2016.
In an interview given immediately after the debate, Petrov spoke about his impressions about the debate, as well as about MOST’s plans for the period after the elections.
“Plenković and Milanović did not say anything, just the usual fairy tales that they both have been telling to people for the last 20 years.
MOST will definitely be the party that will decide who will form the next government. All the polls demonstrate that. We will seek certain guarantees that the manifesto which we advocate will be implemented. We continue to advocate for reforms, because we think they are necessary. The fact is they did not allow us to implement reforms; it is a problem that has characterized both HDZ and SDP over the last 20 years.
The first move must be to implement the tax reform, but not in the way which is being proposed by HDZ and SDP. The VAT rate must be reduced, but I think that for them it is just the easiest thing to say.
The Ministry of Public Administration was supposed to present models of new territorial organization in September. And they have brought down the government. HDZ did it because they did not want the changes to happen. I think SDP would have done the same. The current system is suitable only for them. The behaviour and conflicts of interest by the president of the main party in the government were unacceptable to us. We hope that will never happen again.
People with indictments and under investigations cannot be in power. I believe that MOST has changed something about that. MOST has changed certain standards in Croatian politics. We will cooperate only with parties that will support our manifesto, but they will have to give firm guarantees. We will protect Croatian interests. MOST is the only guarantee that the interests of Croatia will be represented.
Tihomir Orešković has proven to be an excellent prime minister. The economic results demonstrate how he did his job.
I will be MOST’s candidate for prime minister and I believe I can be at least as good, if not better than Plenković or Milanović. Of course, there are better and more capable people and I urge them to enter politics.
I believe that HDZ hopes that we will form a coalition with them, but I do not know on what basis. They have hurt us, maybe even more than SDP. MOST will never agree to any compromise”, said Petrov.
