Total Croatia News

All the fires were started near Šibenik.

After a criminal investigation conducted by the Criminal Police Service of the Šibenik-Knin Police Department, the police has filed criminal charges against a 51-year-old woman from the Šibenik area suspected of committing a criminal offence of endangering life and property with a dangerous act or means. The woman has been detained, reports Jutarnji List on 25 July 2017.

The Šibenik police suspect that the 51-year-old woman deliberately started seven fires in the period from 18 to 23 July this year, in Dubrava near Šibenik, or more precisely in the Relje-Junakovići settlement.

The pyromaniac planted fires on six plots of land, but the flames did not spread thanks to the rapid response of the locals. The seventh fire was started in a barn owned by a person from Dubrava. It was detected and extinguished by police officers during a preventive tour of the area.

The police are still investigating the cause of massive fires which hit the Split area last week. Initial reports that the fires were caused by sparks from power lines have been denied by the police. It is suspected that at least some of the fires were caused intentionally.
